The Fastest Mobile And Broadband Networks In The US: Ookla
Ookla’s report data is based off user-created Speedtest app testing, and other metrics.
Ookla said its data was collected between July and December 2024 from results from consumer users of its Speedtest benchmarking app, and from its “quality of experience metrics.”
The fastest mobile network, according to Ookla’s report? T-Mobile. According to Ookla’s data, T-Mobile was the fastest mobile provider across all technologies, and topped speeds for 5G. It tested at a median 5G download speed of 281.52 Mbps, and an upload speed of 13.29 Mbps.

AT&T’s fiber network is the fastest ISP, as per Ookla’s testing. It achieved a median download speed of 357.54 Mbps, and an upload rate of 286.93 Mbps. AT&T fiber also earned designations by Ookla as the “most consistent ISP” and “top rated ISP.”
Verizon offered the best 5G video experience, and T-Mobile got another accolade as offering the best 5G gaming experience.

Ookla also rated network speeds by region. Washington, D.C. had the fastest median download speed in the U.S. at 184.34 Mbps. Second in place was Illinois, followed by Utah.
Alaska didn’t fare as well in Ookla’s testing. The Last Frontier state had the slowest median download speed at 38.22 Mbps, followed by other poky performers, Wyoming and Vermont.
Among the most populous cities in the U.S., Pittsburgh had the fastest median mobile download speed at 308.96 Mbps. Kansas City, Mo., tested second fastest, followed by Raleigh, N.C.
Anchorage, Alaska, had the slowest median mobile download speed among populous cities, at 49.4 Mbps, followed by Laredo, Texas, and Honolulu.
