Commvault Unveils New Cyber Resilience Offering For Data Lakehouses
The offering supports Apache Iceberg on AWS.
Commvault, a provider of cyber resilience and data protection offerings, Tuesday debuted its cyber resilience platform for data lakehouses built on Clumio for Apache Iceberg on Amazon Web Services.
Clumio addresses security gaps that may exist in modern data lakehouses, Commvault said in a news release. Some of its features include Iceberg-aware data resilience and immutable, air-gapped snapshot copies to deliver data reliance to backups.

The new platform can help organizations automate their compliance and governance processes with long-term snapshot retention, which Commvault says has no impact on live data lake performance.
Clumio can also reduce backup windows and storage costs since it only captures changes made after the initial full backup, Commvault said in the release.
The news is part of Commvault’s goal to provide resilience for the entire AWS data pipeline, the company said in the release.
In July, the company rolled out Clumio Backtrack for Amazon DynamoDB, which allows admins to restore existing DynamoDB tables to a prior point in time, with no need to reconfigure, Commvault said at the time.

Commvault’s recently unveiled offerings are an option for midmarket organizations, Woon Jung, CTO, cloud native at Commvault, said in a statement to MES Computing.
“As midmarket organizations continue to struggle with shrinking security teams and budgets, data recovery and security remain top challenges,” Jung said in the statement.
As midmarket enterprises’ data needs grow more complex, more of the midmarket is turning to data lakes as updated versions of traditional data warehouses.
“Small and medium enterprises log the fastest 27 percent CAGR because vendor-managed plans now offer ‘pay-as-processed' billing. Low-code orchestration and template-driven schemas shorten deployment cycles. Community editions of Iceberg and Delta expose enterprise-grade capability without license fees, letting resource-constrained firms join the data lake market mainstream,” a report on the data lake market by Mordor Intelligence stated.
“The data that powers AI and analytics is one of the most valuable assets for an organization, yet it’s often the most exposed,” Jung said in the release.
“With Clumio for Apache Iceberg, we are providing the industry’s first true safety net for the data lakehouse. For the first time, organizations can protect their AI and analytics data with an air-gapped, automated solution, allowing them to accelerate innovation with confidence.”
