Several tech executives offered their predictions for cloud and AI strategies next year. They shared their insights with MES Computing.

Cloud and AI technologies dominated the business tech landscape in 2025.

This year saw many midmarket organizations shift to a hybrid cloud infrastructure. “Vendors push for organizations to embrace 100 percent cloud deployment, but most MSEs [midsize enterprises] continue to find benefits in a hybrid approach that balances both on-premises and cloud advantages. MSE CIOs or the most senior IT leaders report that, on average, 40 percent of their applications and infrastructure remain on-premises,” according to research firm Gartner.

AI adoption spread like wildfire with agentic AI especially embraced. According to the 2025 Connectivity Benchmark Report by MuleSoft and Deloitte Digital, 93 percent of IT leaders report intentions to introduce autonomous AI agents within the next two years, and nearly half have already done so.

AI and cloud infrastructure will continue to be focal points for organization’s transformation goals in 2026.

Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) Will Be A Cloud Game Changer

According to Microsoft: “A Trusted Execution Environment is a segregated area of memory and CPU that's protected from the rest of the CPU by using encryption. Any code outside that environment can’t read or tamper with the data in the TEE. Authorized code can manipulate the data inside the TEE.”

Richard Copeland, CEO of Leaseweb USA, says that next year TEE will be a game changer for multi-cloud architecture.

“In 2026, Trusted Execution Environment (TEE) technologies will finally move from ‘interesting concept’ to real-world game changer. We’re going to see organizations secure memory and hardware in a way that simply wasn’t practical before, which opens the door for decentralized compute in a very big way. Companies will be able to safely split compute across multiple clouds, regional providers, and even on-prem environments, instead of keeping all their workloads under one hyperscaler’s roof. This will bring a level of flexibility and resilience that hasn’t been possible until now,” Copeland said.

More Organizations Will Look To Hybrid and Multi-Provider Strategies

In 2025, massive cloud downtimes exposed the vulnerability of companies going with a single-provider strategy.

Roger Brulotte, CEO of Leaseweb Canada, said that in 2026, “The companies that future-proof their infrastructure are the ones that stop doing status quo renewals and start exploring the wider market. We meet too many teams who lift and shift everything into one cloud only to discover that the exact infrastructure they needed isn’t available, or the price structure doesn’t match their usage pattern. Once they are in, they start buying workarounds, and suddenly the cost balloons far beyond what they expected. The lesson organizations take into 2026 is that you need partners who ask what problem you are trying to solve before they tell you what to buy.”

Rohan Gupta, vice president, cloud, security and DevOps at digital solutions provider R Systems, echoed this sentiment.

“In 2026, multi-cloud and hybrid environments will become architectural necessities,” Gupta advised.

AI Adoption Becomes Mandatory

“In 2026, AI stops being something companies experiment with and becomes something they cannot operate without. Last year many organizations were still standing at a distance, watching early adopters figure things out. This year the conversation shifts entirely. AI becomes essential for internal productivity, external services, and even competitive survival,” said Brulotte of Leaseweb Canada.

AI Evolves From Tool Into Autonomous Agents Acting As Digital Co-Workers

Autonomous AI agents will have “defined responsibilities and KPIs,” said Neeraj Abhyankar, vice president, data and AI at R Systems. “In 2026, expect to see more AI integration architects who will be essential in embedding agentic workflows into enterprise systems.”

AI Governance Will Become An Organizational Priority

According to Abhyankar: “We’ll also see the rise of governance and ethics leads responsible for real-time compliance, transparency, and responsible deployment. Prompt engineers and LLM ops specialists will continue to emerge to fine-tune GenAI models for precision, performance, and reliability. However, a culture shift is critical in bringing this AI workforce to life. Organizations must embed ethics and governance into the design process from the start, moving away from periodic audits and toward real-time governance frameworks to maintain trust and regulatory alignment.”

Enterprises Will Focus On 4 Critical Areas Regarding AI Investments

“Competitive advantage will come from prioritizing four critical areas: agentic AI platforms that enable multi-agent orchestration; AI-native infrastructures built for scale, security, and interoperability; data modernization tools that unlock the full potential of unstructured data; and AI observability and safety tools that monitor, govern, and refine agent behavior in real time,” Abhyankar also said.

There Will Be A Shift From Using AI For Task Automation To Goal-Oriented Workflows

“AI is moving from helping me do X faster to managing process Y end-to-end with minimal human intervention. The companies that will lead will rearchitect workflows so that AI agents become the backbone of operations. Orchestrated agentic systems will source data, execute tasks, escalate to humans when needed, maintain memory and context, and continuously learn. Success will depend on semantic caching, inference optimization, and hybrid on-device/cloud deployment to balance latency, cost, and performance,” said Samiksha Mishra, director of AI at R Systems.

Humans Working With AI Will Create A Hybrid Advantage

“Rather than full replacement, the next era of AI will be defined by collaboration, which we will see more of in 2026. Humans will focus on ethics, oversight, and creativity, while agents handle routine pattern detection, planning, and execution. This hybrid intelligence model ensures accountability, accelerates operations, and amplifies human decision-making. As augmented intelligence – where AI serves to accelerate human thinking and action, rather than an immediate replacement for humans – continues to gain momentum, organizations that design for human-in-the-loop acceleration, rather than autonomy at all costs, will see the biggest gains,” Mishra added.

SaaS And Software Companies Will Become AI-First

“Older SaaS and software companies are reorienting and re-architecting themselves around AI. In 2026, being AI-first will be critical for product adoption. Companies will need to move from being ‘System of Record’ and ‘System of Engagement’ to ‘System of Intelligence & Agents.’ AI must provide ‘wow’ experiences and not feel like a bolt-on. We will see more intelligent interfaces and multi-agent workflows, powered by standardized context and action interfaces,” said Kalpak Shah, head - tech, internet, and platforms, R Systems.

AI Agents Become the New Enterprise ‘User’ and They’ll Transform How Companies Automate

According to Deepak Singh, chief innovation officer of data-focused Adeptia: “Enterprise software won’t just serve humans; it will also support a new class of users: AI agents acting on behalf of teams, partners, and customers. These agents will configure, trigger, and monitor automations with minimal human involvement, shifting organizations toward a true ‘set it and forget it’ model.”
